Colonic Stent Placement

Stents may be used to treat symptoms in patients suffering from malignant (cancerous) disease, such as a bowel obstruction or an obstruction caused by small intestine cancer or colorectal cancer (also known as colon cancer). During a colonic stent placement, a tiny tube known as a stent is placed to prop open an obstruction in the colon which may allow fluid and food to pass more easily and also to keep the colon from becoming obstructed again.

Colonic Stent Options

The WallFlex® Colonic Stent is indicated for palliative treatment of colonic strictures produced by malignant neoplasms. The WALLSTENT® Colonic and Duodenal Endoprosthesis is indicated for palliative treatment of colonic, duodenal or gastric outlet obstruction or strictures caused by malignant neoplasms, and to relieve large bowel obstruction prior to colectomy in patients with malignant strictures. The Ultraflex™ Precision Colonic Stent System is indicated for the palliative treatment of colonic strictures caused by malignant neoplasms and to relieve obstruction prior to colectomy in patients with malignant strictures in the descending colon, sigmoid colon and rectum.
